The first phase in the renovation of the historic LA Memorial Coliseum won the 2018 category of Outstanding Performance in Repair & Restoration for the Southern California chapter of ACI. The Conco Companies was the concrete contractor on the high profile project and has previously been recognized with ACI awards. LA Memorial Coliseum Renovation First Phase

Originally constructed in 1923, the LA Coliseum has become an iconic venue from hosting Super Bowls, the Olympics, and numerous other events. The high-profile renovation is being done to update the Coliseum to host the LA Rams and the Olympics in 2028, with an eight-story modern structure with press boxes and luxury suites as well as new lighting, updated audio, Wi-Fi, and video scoreboards.

 

The first phase of the renovations required Conco’s experience in precision project planning and execution of complex projects. In this renovation, the construction had to work around the 2018-2019 football seasons of the USC Trojans and LA Rams. Phase 1 included demolition, excavation, shoring, concrete placement, and creating the structural steel frame for the 7-story building. The on-grade seating, which included radiused, sloped seating, required special admixtures to meet the project constraints.
