Breaking the Guinness World Record for the Largest Continuous Mat Pour

Starting at 4:47 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, Conco broke the Guinness World Record for the largest continuous mat pour in 18 ½ hours (1 ½ hours under the projected time). To verify the event, there was an official Guinness World Records adjudicator on-site. Conco’s Thermal Control Plan of the Wilshire Grand Mat Foundation Pour Proves Successful

Among the many unique features of the Wilshire Grand mat foundation pour was the thermal control plan. Occasionally we need to make provisions for the heat that is generated in mat foundations. Conco’s Equipment Met the Tough Challenges of the Wilshire Grand Pour With Flying Colors

To successfully complete the world’s largest continuous mat pour, one of the biggest challenges Conco faced was to find ways to unload 120 – 150 truckloads of concrete per hour. With the need to unload so many trucks in such a short period of time, Conco’s plan called for thirteen points of placement in the mat foundation. Record Setting Event Accomplished Without Injury

While Conco is justifiably proud of breaking the World record for the largest continuous mat pour, we are even more proud of doing it safely. Our commitment to safety began with the vision from Conco’s Southern California General Manager, Rick Parker. Five months prior to the pour, he invited John Messing, Conco’s Safety Director, to participate in the planning meetings for the Grand Pour. Conco Awarded the Wilshire Grand Center Project

Conco has been given the opportunity to participate in another landmark project by providing concrete services for the new Wilshire Grand Center being built in downtown L.A. The new tower will become the tallest building in the United States west of the Mississippi. This is one of several of our large-scale projects in Los Angeles. Others include the recently completed 125 year old Hall of Justice retrofit, the new Federal Courthouse, a new 45 story cast in place building at 10000 Santa Monica, The iconic ARTIC transportation Center in Anaheim and several smaller projects. High Rise Second Place Winner for the Premiere on Pine

The residential tower, Premiere on Pine (formerly known as 815 Pine) is a Second Place Winner of the American Concrete Institute’s 2017 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in the High Rise category. This is quite an honor as there were only 12 winners from around the world. The winners were recognized at the “Celebrating Concrete Innovation and Excellence Across the Globe” Awards Gala during the ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition. Recipients of the award for the Premiere on Pine’s project include its owner and developer, Holland Partner Group; architect, Weber Thompson Architects; engineering firm, Cary Kopcznyski & Company; general contractor, Holland construction Inc.; and concrete contractor, The Conco Companies.

815 Pine St, Seattle, WA — Premiere on Pine (formerly known as 815 Pine), won second place of the American Concrete Institute’s 2017 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in the High Rise category.

The tower’s use of high-strength concrete and reinforcing steel created maximum floor space for the small site and is the first building in Seattle to have a specified concrete strength of 15,000 psi in its columns. Along with showcasing the technological advancements in the concrete industry over the last couple of decades, it allowed the high-strength columns to be smaller than those found in similarly sized projects. Conco is extremely honored to receive the award from the ACI. We are proud to have been selected for this innovative project and to have been a part of this exceptional team.

2017 Charles J. Pankow Jr. Award awarded to The Conco Companies

The Charles J. Pankow, Jr. Award recognizes outstanding and innovative use of concrete in construction. This award was established by the Southern California ACI Chapter in 1984 in honor of Charles J. Pankow, Jr. who served as the International President of ACI in 1980-1981 and who has been active in the Southern California Chapter since its founding. The award is made annually, if, in the judgment of the Awards Committees, a qualified project and contractor are nominated. The Conco Companies is proud to be the recipient of the 2017 Pankow Award for Excellence in Concrete Construction for the Wilshire Grand Project.

Conco’s Martinez facility was honored by Central Contra Costa Sanitary District with an annual Pollution Prevention Award. The award recognizes local businesses that go above and beyond in their pollution prevention and environmental protection practices.

Some of the practices that Conco has adopted in our Martinez facility include using recycled water to wash trucks, pretreating water before it enters the storm drain through an innovative sand-oil interceptor and installation of a new sawdust collector, and installing solar panels and LED lights to reduce the electrical usage of the facility.

We at Conco are honored to receive this award and are committed to reducing the impact of our facilities on the environment. As technologies evolve, it is our goal to continue to invest in projects like these that make not only good business sense but also generate positive environmental results.
