Wilshire-Grand-largest-continuous-mat-pour.jpg

The Conco Companies are doing the structural concrete work for the new Wilshire Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. As part of the project, Conco broke the Guinness World Record by completing the largest, continuous mat pour at the site. The pour took 21,200 cubic yards, or 82 million pounds, of concrete and was done in just 18 ½ hours. We are also doing a poured-in-place core wall that goes up the building surrounded by slab on metal deck. The core is 130 ft. X 35 ft. with some walls up to 4 ft. thick. In addition, Conco purchased and is using a new state-of-the art electric pump to pump concrete 400 ft. horizontally and then 1,000 ft. vertically to reach the upper levels of the Wilshire tower.

The Conco Companies were awarded the concrete contract for a steel-and-glass high-rise apartment building in North San Jose, CA. Once complete, the Century Center Towers will be the tallest residential project in the area, with two 12-story towers, coming off of one giant floor plan. The project is being developed in partnership with the Barry Swenson Builder and the Essex Property Trust on the $170 million, 574,000 square feet project. Conco is providing concrete services on the two towers as well as for the construction of a 494-car parking structure. Our time-lapsed YouTube video demonstrates the final 6,650 yard mat foundation pour that we did for the property in January 2015. The tight logistics of the downtown site presented a significant hurdle to the Conco team. In spite of the obstacles, Conco deployed five boom pumps and was able to place all of the concrete in only 11 1/2 hours!

The Conco Companies are providing all of the concrete and reinforcement services for the $20.5 million De La Salle H.S. STREAM Innovation Center. The 27,288 square foot, 2-story building will incorporate both “green” design and construction. The multi-disciplinary building broke ground in June, 2014 and is scheduled to open August, 2015. The Center will expand teaching and learning opportunities by allowing the school to increase course offerings to prepare students for a rapidly changing global job market. STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

This project had to be completed in a way that did not interfere with the busy school schedule and extracurricular activities associated with a highly reputable high school. Therefore, a large mat foundation pour was completed on Saturday and elevated concrete slabs were scheduled around important events.

The Conco Companies were awarded the complete concrete and reinforcement contract for a new luxury, multi-family apartment building in Walnut Creek, CA. The 6-story, Class A-designed cast-in-place concrete structure consists of 162,064+/- SF of total gross floor space. Also included in the project are two levels of gated parking with 135 spaces below the structure. The decks were post-tensioned concrete and stud rail assemblies were utilized to reduce rebar congestion and increase design flexibility.

Located in downtown Walnut Creek, the tight logistics created access challenges in meeting the expedited schedule. Conco operated a self-erecting tower crane that helped us attain the demands of the job. The Arroyo is scheduled to open for occupancy in the summer of 2015.
