Conveniently located in the city’s central business district, the stunning beautifully designed tower will incorporate a wide range of “green” building features such as rain water management, photovoltaic glass and light pollution reduction. Scheduled for completion in April, 2017, the tower will bring to the area first-class office space that is highly divisible and offers 9’ 6” windows for natural light and spectacular views.

Concrete Pumping - The Mark

The 5,000 cubic yard mat foundation pour was completed in June, 2015 and required approximately 500 truckloads of concrete over the course of the day. The project also includes a sub-level parking structure comprised of shotcrete perimeter walls and a concrete elevator core. As of May 2016, Levels 5-11 decks have been poured and the core poured to Level 35. When the elevator core reaches Level 35, the remainder of the building steel will be erected in one continuous phase.

The building’s unique geometric facade provides exterior seismic bracing for structural safety as well as column-free floor plates. Unobstructed by columns or bracing, the 13’ 6” floor-to-floor heights will allow for individualized, open plans or heavy build-outs. The Mark is seeking LEED Gold Certification.

The SLS hotel will be a collaborative effort from the Founder and CEO Sam Nazarian, renowned designer Philippe Starck, and chef James Beard. The hotel will also include 15,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a 5,000 sq. ft. ballroom, sky lounge and two restaurants. Adjacent to the SLS Hotel are two historic buildings. A century-old sanctuary building, the First United Methodist Church, and the Rainier Club. Founded in 1888, the Rainer Club has occupied their current building since 1904.

Washington Square, BellevueBellevue, WA has consistently been rated as one of the top places in the country to live, work, and to raise a family.  The vibrant community offers a first-class school district, a wide-range of outdoor activities, and entertainment venues as well as great restaurants and retails stores.

Conco was pleased to provide concrete services for the Washington Square high-rise condominium project.  It was the first stage of a large development complex that is being built in the heart of downtown Bellevue.  The two 22-story condo towers were completed in 2008 and have a total of 377 residential units.  Built as a model of urban living, the development boasts an attractively landscaped courtyard, tree-lined walkways, and a convenient dog park.  Amenities include concierge services, night doorman, spa, massage rooms, and a fitness center.

The complete 10.5-acre project is referred to as the “Superblock” and is a mixed-use neighborhood.  A second phase of construction is still on-going and is expected to be finished sometime in 2014 or early 2015.  When the development is complete, it will include a total of five high-rise towers of residential condos and townhouses, office space, and a hotel.  There will also be 160,000 sq. ft. of ground-level retail space.

The project was developed by Wasatch Development Associates and the architect was the firm of COLLINSWOERMAN who are known for their designs of sustainable communities and mixed-use properties.  The engineer was DCI Engineers who are headquartered in Bellevue.  The condos offer a pedestrian friendly lifestyle with nearby shopping, business district, and entertainment.  The Bellevue Square Mall, Lincoln Square Cinemas, and the Tateuchi Center for performing arts are conveniently located just down the block from Washington Square.

For over 50 years, Conco has been providing premium concrete services and is one of the most trusted concrete contractors in Seattle.  We partner with clients on every project from the pre-construction stage right through to final completion to maximize efficiency and ensure goals and budgets are met.  Our concrete services include commercial, educational, parking and other construction development as well as public works projects.

Problem: Unappealing Concrete Shear-wall

Solution: Sculpted Shotcrete Mural

The City of Burien, WA sits below the Cascade Mountain range. As such, in the background of the downtown area is Mount Rainier. When building a parking garage to support the bus transit center, the city wanted to avoid having a structure with stark concrete walls. Their goal was to turn the building into a piece of art that highlighted the city’s most visible landmark and surrounding mountain ranges.

Working with the general contractor, Pankow Builders, Conco worked to create sculpted shotcrete murals that depicted views of the Cascades, Olympics, and Mount Rainier on all four sides of the building. The shear-walls were shot from the outside of the building and the area’s where the murals were going to be located were left with a scratch finish to allow the proper bonding of the mural work to the structural shotcrete wall.

As the picture shows, the shotcrete murals provide not only the structural integrity needed for the parking structure but serves as a stunning work of art that highlights the local landscape of Burien, WA.

The application of sculpted shotcrete is only limited by the imagination. It is a great way to either highlight your structure or blend it in with the local landscape.
