Most high-rise towers follow a similar design pattern. The most common design is for the structure to have floors that stack over one another with virtually little deviation from one floor to the next. Look at any city skyline and you will see an abundance of buildings that fit this mold. The consistency of the floorplan allows for easier and less expensive engineering and construction due to the design pattern’s repetitive nature.
Only 25 years ago, the raw materials necessary to produce ready-mix concrete -- namely, cement, fly ash, and aggregates -- were far more available than they are now. These materials were not only plentiful, but they were produced near the markets they serviced. The cement and aggregates industry employed many individuals with local, well-paying union jobs; in turn, local businesses benefited from the commerce these companies generated. As an industry, we used these resources as if there were an infinite supply. Need to strengthen your concrete? Just add another sack of cement. Need the concrete to set a little faster? Just add more cement to the mix.
Ask anyone who works on major home and commercial renovation projects about the top complaints from clients, and they’ll say one is the failure to complete a project on time. Projects that take longer than expected to finish can test patience to the point where it strains relationships within a family.

For projects to get approval to move forward, the financing requirements often require that a structure is pre-leased or sold with tenants or potential owners. The prospective tenants and/or owners often come with a caveat: the building will be completed by a certain deadline. If you miss the deadline, you put the whole project in jeopardy and could lose the customer.
Staying on schedule is especially important for Conco’s concrete projects.
Projects can’t get off the ground without pouring concrete. Without timely concrete pours, the project will be off track from the start. That’s why Conco builds a schedule before we even submit a bid. We do this by virtually building the project with BIM (Building Information Modeling) services. This creates a virtual information model that tells our team what exactly it will take to build the job. When we go in with eyes wide open, we encounter fewer surprises that lead to delays.

If the general contractor gives Conco the opportunity to review the plans and concepts early, we take an extra step by providing design-build proposals to save time and money. We make the plans as sharp and efficient as we can within the allotted time frame, because the better the plan, the bigger the success.

The new Santa Rosa Criminal Courthouse will use the following Conco services: concrete pumping, concrete reinforcement, concrete formwork, concrete finishing, shotcrete, and Confoam. The courthouse will be located on the Sonoma County Administration Campus on Ventura Avenue, north of downtown Santa Rosa, and on the cleared site where the Old Jail facility stood.
The courthouse will be 6 stories above ground and include a basement level. The lower 2 levels will contain courtrooms, general parking, and secured parking, with the upper 4 levels containing additional courtrooms and court administration offices. There will be 430 parking stalls available for daily operations within the courthouse, along with an additional 20 stalls for secured parking.
The new courthouse will contain 15 courtrooms and provide criminal, traffic, and juvenile dependency proceedings for the county. With an expanded size, the courthouse will include new features, such as larger jury rooms, in-custody holding, attorney interview and witness waiting rooms, a children’s waiting room, and a security entrance for screening court visitors.
Conco is expecting to place 11,000 cubic yards total of concrete and shotcrete, and 1,900,000 pounds of reinforcing bar. Rudolph & Sletten are overseeing the complete building process, partnering with Richard Meier & Partners Architects, Englekirk Institutional engineers, and Conco commercial concrete services.
Construction of the new courthouse began in June 2021, with anticipated completion in July 2023. It will total approximately 169,147 Building Gross SF (BGSF). Conco is excited to add a courthouse to our portfolio of projects in Western California, which will provide ongoing savings by consolidating court services.

Conco is providing concrete services for the Lytton Rancheria of CA, a federally recognized American Indian Tribe. The Lytton Rancheria Project is located at the corner of Windsor River Road and Eastside Road, and is a residence consisting of 127 buildings, a Tribal Community Center, and a retreat. The residential units will be broken down into 95 single-family houses, 24 cottage-style houses, and 28 multi-family housing units.
The community will have sustainable features such as stormwater runoff treatment and containment, water-efficient landscaping, energy-efficient buildings, and renewable, recycled, or low volatile organic compounds. In addition to a community center and retreat, there will be a ceremonial Roundhouse and multi-use trails. All buildings will meet the equivalent standards of the California Building Code (CBC) and the seismic design standards for Seismic Zone 4 as stated in the Uniform Building Code (UBC).
Conco’s services will range from concrete pumping to shotcrete. We’re expecting to place 11,200 cubic yards of concrete and shotcrete, and 1,300,000 pounds of reinforcing bar. We’re excited to help Lytton Rancheria establish a homeland and reunite tribal members, setting roots for future generations. They will be able to provide self-governmental services for tribe members (e.g. housing, health care, education) and protect their ties to the land.
