221 North Matilda - The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services on the 221 N. Mathilda Project in Sunnyvale, CA.  The three-story, Class A office building is being developed by the owner, Spear Street Capital and designed by SmithGroupJJR. South Bay Construction is serving as the general contractor and the structural engineer is SEI Structural Engineers Inc.  The building, which is being developed on a 4.3 acre greenfield site includes a partial below grade parking structure to accommodate 401 parking stalls. Located between N. Market Ave and Sobrante Way just off W. California Ave, it is close to the Sunnyvale Caltrain station, the San Francisco Peninsula commuter rail service. 

Conco’s responsibilities on the project include providing concrete pumping, reinforcement, formwork, finishing, and shotcrete services.  During the project, we expect to place 7,600 cubic yards of concrete as well as shotcrete.  This project consists of 1,150,000 pounds of rebar and post tension reinforcement of which Conco is having placed by others due to factors beyond our control.  We started the project in August 2017 will complete the job in July 2018.  

The architect, SmithGroupJJR says the building’s most significant design feature is the “striking, custom 2,000 sq. ft., laminated glass artwork that will span the building’s east façade.”  It was designed to reflect the site’s history as an orchard.  The building will have an open, modern warehouse feel with floor-to-floor windows and industrial elements.  The project expects to receive LEED-NC Platinum certification and will include sustainable design features such as energy efficient building systems, water conserving fixtures, architectural solar shading, and outdoor amenities.  There will also be green screen cladding on the parking garage.

Santa Clara Square The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services on Phase II of the Santa Clara Square Project (Buildings 3-5) in Santa Clara, CA.  The owner/developer is the Irvine Company and the project is designed by the architectural firm, MVE + Partners.   Western National Contractors is the general contractor and FBA, INC. Structural Engineers is serving as the project’s structural engineers. 

The entire project consists of 1,763 residential units within 7 separate, 5-story buildings, all wrapped with concrete garage structures and a central promenade that includes around 40,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.  The Santa Square Buildings are located between Scott Blvd & Augustine Drive from Octavius Drive to Main Street. 

Conco was awarded Phase II of the project which is three of the seven 5-story buildings (861 of the residential units) and wrapped parking structures for a total of 642,886 sq. ft.  Conco’s responsibilities include providing concrete pumping, reinforcement, shotcrete, formwork, and finishing services. During the project, we expect to place 22,700 cubic yards of concrete as well as shotcrete. In addition we are providing 3,100,000 pounds of rebar and post tension reinforcement.  Conco crews began work on the project in October 2017 and will finish the job in August 2018. 

According to the Irvine Company Apartment Communities, the apartment homes will offer luxury studio and one- and two-bedroom living spaces and will be adjacent to open park areas, diverse retail and popular dining options.  Residents will also enjoy lots of amenities such as four pools, outdoor dining areas with BBQs and fireplaces, state-of-the-art fitness centers, a 3-acre park and access to the San Tomas Aquino Trail, and more.  The Santa Clara Square complex expects to receive LEED Gold certification for its environmental sustainability.

Stanford Redwood City A3 Building - The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services on the Stanford Redwood City A3 Building Project in Redwood City, CA.  The 38,500 sq. ft. project is being developed by the Palo Alto based owner, the Stanford University Land, Buildings, & Real Estate.  The general contractor is Devcon Construction Inc. and the structural engineer is SEI Structural Engineers Incorporated.

The new 2-story concrete and steel fitness center is a part of the construction for the new Stanford Redwood City campus.  The BeWell Fitness Center offers a distinct sloping roofline as well as a rooftop pool.  Located on 35-acres, the Redwood City campus is located between Broadway and Bay Road with the A3 building backing up to Second Ave.

Conco’s responsibilities on the project include providing concrete pumping, reinforcement, formwork, finishing, and shotcrete services.  For the project, we placed approximately 2,800 cubic yards of concrete along with shotcrete.   We also provided 330,000 pounds of rebar and post tension reinforcement.  Conco crews began work on the fitness center in May of 2016 and completed work in October of 2017.

During the same period we provided concrete services on the Stanford Redwood City Parking Garage Project next door that consists of a below grade parking level and six levels above grade.  Conco crew’s will complete the 346,741 sq. ft. garage that will accommodate 1,041 parking stalls project in February of 2018.  The campus’ new steel framed buildings have a distinct “Stanford,” look with exterior shells of limestone, terra cotta and glass.  The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2019, and it is expected that up to 2,700 Stanford employees will work at the Stanford Redwood City location.

Modera at San Pedro - The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services for the Modera at San Pedro project located within downtown San Jose’s historic San Pedro Square.  The owner/developer is the San Mateo based Mill Creek Advisors and the project is designed by Steinberg Hart Architects. The general contractor is Hawk Construction and structural engineer is Hoogerwerf Engineering Group.  The project is located between Almaden Avenue and San Pedro Street, north of Santa Clara Street. 

The 8-story, mixed-use development features 201 residential units that include 94 studios, 54 one-bedroom, and 53 two-bedroom units on the upper six floors and approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of commercial and retail space on the bottom two.  The structure also has an integrated four-story parking garage that will accommodate 278 vehicles and two below grade levels. 

Conco’s responsibilities include providing concrete pumping, reinforcement, formwork, finishing, and shotcrete services.  During the project, we expect to place 12,500 cubic yards of concrete and shotcrete as well as provide approximately 625,000 pounds of rebar and post tension reinforcement (due to circumstances another company placed the reinforcement).  We began work on the Modera at San Pedro in July 2017 and finished our end of the project in February 2018.

According to the developer, the building features “modern, sophisticated touches while still giving a nod to the surrounding, historic San Pedro Square neighborhood.”  Residents will also be offered an array of amenities that include the controlled access garage, a club-like fitness studio, cyber café, and dedicated bike storage and lockers.  The clubhouse will offer a pool table, game room, and coffee bar along with a rooftop and outdoor decks.

Hanover Waverly Project - The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services for the Hanover Waverly Project in Oakland, CA. The mixed-use project is being developed by the Houston-based owner, the Hanover R.S. Limited Partnership and designed by TCA Architects. The general contractor on the project is Hanover and the structural engineer is SCA Consulting Engineers.

The 7-story Hanover Waverly will offer 224 apartments as well as 22,000 sq. ft. of ground floor retail. TCA’s contemporary style building follows the curved lot line and highlights the building’s important location at the corner of Valdez Street and 27th Street. The project also has a below grade parking structure with 226 parking stalls. The building’s exterior is comprised of high quality materials including stone, brick, glass, metal wall panels and cement plaster. In addition the numerous changes of plane, balconies and other projections add visual interest throughout the faces of the building.

For the project, Conco’s responsibilities included providing concrete pumping, reinforcement, shotcrete, formwork, and finishing services. We placed around 17,600 cubic yards of concrete and shotcrete as well as provided 4,000,000 pounds of rebar and post tension reinforcement. Conco’s crews began working on the project in April of 2017 and the job was completed in January of 2018. We also worked on the Hanover Uptown, which is just down the street.

According to TCA, the building follows the Broadway-Valdez Design Guidelines. The Waverly’s design breaks the building up mid-block and the variations in color, material and line help to highlight the break between the north and south halves of the building. Residents of the building will have many amenities such as a fitness room, bike parking, dog grooming and clubhouse. There will also be three courtyards at the second level of the building.
